The North Dakota Centers of Excellence Commission has issued a two-year grant to Harris Corp. to help develop aviation-grade network services to enable beyond-line-of-sight operations for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Under the two-year grant, Harris will partner with University of North Dakota and the Northern Plains UAS Test Site to develop the network infrastructure system.

The new award is a continuation of a previous grant that included development and a risk and safety assessment of UAS detect-and-avoid technology. The UAS beyond-line-of-sight network will be developed within the Grand Forks-to-Fargo corridor.
