[Avionics Today 03-03-2015] Satcom Direct’s FlightDeck Freedom data link service now enables Future Air Navigation System (FANS) testing to troubleshoot or validate FANS capabilities and crew procedures. The testing capabilities look to support implementation of FANS for both operators and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). The FlightDeck Freedom data link service integrates features and functionality for flight departments, including clearances, airport weather, trip planning and monitoring onboard connectivity status.

“Use of the Future Air Navigation System has become mandatory in some regions and improves the efficiency of all airspace users, including business aviation operators,” said Satcom Direct founder and CEO Jim Jensen, noting that the testing capability looks to support the mandate. FANS functionality can be tested for validation or troubleshooting purposes via the VHF, Inmarsat or Iridium networks.
