Micro-Miniature Connector

Amphenol Aerospace, of Sidney, N.Y., offers a series of rugged, micro-miniature connectors that provide more power throughput and consistent coupling by incorporating more electrical connections in compact form factor.

They are available in shell sizes from five to 23, and are intermateable and intermountable with existing micro-miniature high-density connectors typically used in aerospace and defense applications, according to the company.

The new 2M Series uses advanced bonding techniques to increase adhesion properties and reduce the risk of foreign object debris, Amphenol said. This enhanced process makes the connectors even more reliable in the harsh conditions found throughout soldier-wearable, missile and ordnance, communication systems and avionics applications, according to the company.

The connectors can be internally filtered for radiated and conducted EMI to increase system efficiency and reduce overall system size, weight and components.

Nav Charts Upgrade

Lufthansa Systems released a new version of its Lido/eRouteManual electronic navigation charts. The latest release features enhanced functions for displaying and configuring the charts. Pilots can now save route and airport charts with all of their personal settings, such as zoom levels, and they can select a specific operational flight plan from a number of saved plans.

Additional configuration and display options make it possible to adapt the charts to current working conditions or personal preferences, the company said.

Lido/eRouteManual includes charts for take-off and landing as well as airport and route charts. Layout, colors and symbols are identical in the charts’ paper and electronic versions, making it easier for pilots to migrate from Lido/RouteManual to Lido/eRouteManual, Lufthansa said.

TCAS STC

Rockwell Collins received European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification of its Traffic Alert Collision Avoidance System (TCAS II) on the Eurocopter EC225 Super Puma Mk II+.

TCAS II, which is required on fixed wing aircraft carrying more than 15 passengers, works by interrogating the air traffic control (ATC) transponders of other nearby aircraft to determine and display their altitudes, ranges and relative positions. The TCAS II computer uses algorithms and interrogation techniques to calculate the speed, direction and conflict potential of these targets and if necessary, computes and displays a recommended vertical avoidance maneuver to ensure safe separation.

Beacon Decoder

Becker Avionics introduced Beacon Decoder (BD) 406. The BD 406 is developed specifically to decode and navigate to 406 MHz Cospas-Sarsat capable beacons transmitting the 406 MHz signal with GPS information, providing the ability to directly decode the transmitted GPS location of a 406 MHz beacon data burst, according to the company.

The decoder can display location data on its own self-contained LCD display, or on a cockpit display or integrated aircraft EFIS display, via the ARINC 429 output. It can track and identify up to 49 individual beacon codes, and will display the 15 digit C/S Hex ID Code to enable rescue services to effectively allocate resources accordingly in trying to find the distress beacon, according to the company.
