Aerospace Industries Assn. (AIA) has hired former Boeing Commercial Airplanes executive David Silver, the association said. He joins the organization as its VP of Civil Aviation.

“We are delighted to welcome David to the AIA team,” said David F. Melcher, AIA President and CEO. “He has a wealth of experience with civil aviation regulatory issues and will be a great asset for AIA’s advocacy objectives.”

AIA said that Silver’s duties include leading the Civil Aviation Division, AIA’s efforts to encourage U.S. investment in the national airspace and AIA’s efforts to encourage the streamlining of FAA certification processes.

Silver worked for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, AIA said, for almost two decades. His various positions included director of Engineering and Regulatory Affairs and deputy fleet chief for the 787 program. He served 22 years in the Washington Army National Guard, and holds degrees from Arizona State University and Washington State University
