StandardAero has received a FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for upgrading Mark V Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) computers with Honeywell’s Smart Runway and SmartLanding runway safety package for Falcon 50, F50EX, and Falcon 900, and Falcon 900EX. StandardAero completed the STCs via its Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) at the Springfield, Ill.

Honeywell’s EGPWS uses aircraft inputs including position, attitude, airspeed and glideslope, along with an internal terrain / obstacle / runway database to predict a potential conflict between the aircraft’s flight path and terrain or an obstacle.

"The SmartRunway and SmartLanding functions provide alerts and advisories that increase a crew’s situational awareness during operation on and around airports," said Jeremy Thomas, avionics product director, StandardAero Business Aviation. "Smart Runway/Smart Landing is an evolution of the original Honeywell RAAS system, originally developed and released in 2003, that incorporates many improvements over the original RAAS providing even more protection against runway incursions and excursions. By developing the STC we are the first to install this new system on F50EX aircraft, we are offering to Falcon 50 and Falcon 900 owners. This provides operators the ability to increase their safety envelope during the critical takeoff and landing phases of flight."

The SmartRunway function has alerts for Taxiway Landing, Taxiway Takeoff, Short Runway cautions, and Takeoff Flap Monitoring and the Smart Landing function provides visual and aural annunciations that supplement flight crew awareness of un-stabilized approaches, altimeter setting problems, landing long and select RAAS advisories.
