SkyTrac, Kelowna, British Columbia, will provide a fleet-wide flight following and satellite communications system for Quantum Helicopters, a helicopter operator in Terrace, British Columbia. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed. Quantum operates a fleet of Bell 206B, Bell 206L-R and Bell 205 helicopters. SkyTrac said its ISAT units will be installed in the aircraft that require satellite voice communication and flight following. For the remaining aircraft, which require flight following while on particular assignments, a dual antenna (Iridium and GPS) will be permanently installed and a pool of SkyTrac’s portable DSAT units will be shared among the fleet on an as-required basis. “Satellite tracking of aircraft in real time increases safety and streamlines operations and is becoming mandatory in contracts with government agencies,” said Ernie Sande, assistant operations manager at Quantum Helicopters.
