[Avionics Today 12-23-2014] The Brazilian Navy has subcontracted Elbit Systems of America to upgrade four Grumman C-1A aircraft. Under the $106 million contract, Elbit will provide integration of new glass cockpit avionics, communication and ECS systems, engine replacement and air-to-air refueling capabilities.

The twin-engine C-1A was previously used by the U.S. Navy for air cargo transportation and electronic counter measures missions until it was retired in the late 1980s. In 2010, Brazil announced its intention to acquire a fleet of C-1As for cargo deliveries and aerial refueling.

Elbit will perform the upgrades over a five year period.
