You will soon be capable of flying nonstop from Washington, D.C., to Rome, Italy, as the long-range version of Airbus’ newest single-aisle jet, the A321, successfully completed its maiden flight. The A321LR has a 4,000 nm range, according to Airbus.

The aircraft needs to undergo flight testing for FAA and EASA type certification and is expected to be ready for service in late 2018.

Notable about the A321LR is that a new door configuration increases the capacity to a category-best 240 passengers. The plane features CFM Leap-1A engines, which combine with its size and configuration to target a focus on range and efficiency.
