ARINC Industry Activities, an SAE Industry Technologies Consortia program, has signed an agreement to share information with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The organizations have long been cooperative according to ARINC Executive Director Mike Rockwell, but this formalizes that cooperation and allows for a greater exchange of information that, in the words of ICAO Sec. Gen. Fang Liu, “will be critical to ICAO’s efforts to develop mature and comprehensive standards for civil aviation.”

Liu said that the industry insight facilitated by the partnership would be crucial for the ICAO because “industry standards serve unique and often complementary roles” to governmental regulations, and the agreement would help ensure that they are “fully compatible.”

Among the information shared will be aircraft communication, navigation, surveillance technology and ATM data.
