Bahrain’s Gulf Air has tapped Thales to equip its incoming fleet of Airbus aircraft. The airline said Thales is to deliver an avionics suite that includes TopFlight flight management systems.

The deal covers 12 A320neos and 17 A321neos. According to Gulf Air, TopFlight has a 70% market share on the A320neo and A330neo families. The solution provides pilots with reliable navigational information that is displayed simply. Gulf Air said TopFlight is suited to heavy air traffic conditions.

AirAsia selected TopFlight for 304 units of its own new fleet of A320neos. Announced in March, that deal covered TopFlight, Thales/ACSS T3CAS2 traffic collision avoidance systems, low-range radio altimeters and emergency location transmitters. The contract also covered an agreement for long-term repair-by-the-hour support.

Thales’ flight management system includes hardware combined with the latest-certified Airbus Release 1A software. It features secondary flight plan and realistic navigation trajectory computations for flight management systems landing system capabilities to flight crew.
