AirAsia X has landed in the U.S. for the first time, the self-proclaimed long-haul, low-cost carrier said. Flight D7 001 landed at Honolulu International Airport June 28.

“We are here to democratize air travel for everyone so flying long haul would no longer be a luxury only a few could enjoy. This landmark route to Hawaii is a bold new chapter in that quest to help more people travel farther for less,” said Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz, chairperson for AirAsia X. “But this is just the beginning, and soon our guests will be able to enjoy flights to even more destinations in the U.S. as we continue to grow our international footprint.”

The route — from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Honolulu — goes through Osaka, Japan. It will be available four times weekly.

During the Paris Air Show, AirAsia X won the “World’s Best Low Cost Airline Premium Cabin and Premium Seat” award at the Skytrax World Airline Awards. The airline said this was its fifth consecutive year winning the award. AirAsia was named “World’s Best Low Cost Airline” for the ninth straight year.
