The FAA’s Flight Standards Service issued a new safety warning to aircraft installers regarding reports the agency has received on improper testing of aircraft air traffic control transponders and ADS-B OUT equipment.
According to the warning, called a Safety Alert for Operators (SAFO), at least one report highlights an aircraft’s ADS-B testing leading to a Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System II Resolution Advisory generating a false airborne target to a Boeing 737 that was on approach at a nearby airport, causing the pilot and air traffic controller’s reactions to disrupt arrivals into that airport for a 30-minute period.
