[Avionics Magazine 01-04-17] Elbit Systems Ltd. has won two contracts for the supply of airborne laser designators, the company said. Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. issued the awards, both worth a total of about $35 million. Elbit is to perform work over a three-year period, providing systems to Rafael to distribute to two countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The laser designator from Elbit’s ISTAR (information, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance) division features small-size, weight and power (SWaP) enhancements. There is a "mini" version and those for fixed-wing aircraft and unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The switchable designator rangefinder laser (SDRL) for long-range fixed-wing aircraft is a diode-pumped dual wavelength product.

Rafael says it is the largest employer in Northern Israel. The company designs, develops, manufactures and supplies defense systems for air, land, sea and space applications.
