[Avionics Today 04-27-2016] Aspen Avionics has received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for installation of its Evolution Backup Display. It is a fully digital, independent Primary Flight Display (PFD) designed to replace mechanical backup instruments and the associated vacuum system supporting those instruments in Part 23 Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS) installations. This means that pilots flying integrated glass panel systems can now fully complete the digital transformation of their panels.

“If the primary cockpit EFIS system fails, transitioning to a glass backup display rather than a mechanical instrument will be much more intuitive and less stressful in emergency situations,” said Perri Coyne, director of marketing operations at Aspen Avionics.

The Evolution Backup Display comes standard with a large capacity emergency power source providing two hours of continuous operation.
