[Avionics Today 06-22-2015] Polish airline LOT reported an IT attack yesterday that affected the airline’s ground operation systems and grounded an estimated 10 aircraft. The attack left LOT unable to create flight plans and, as a result, outbound flights from Warsaw were unable to depart. Aircraft already airborne were able to continue their flights and those with flight plans already filled were able to return to Warsaw normally, according to the airline.

In a statement regarding the event on LOT’s website, the airline underlined that the cyber attack had no influence on its aircraft’s onboard systems. The incident still comes at a time when threats to cyber security in aviation are taking center stage and represents one of the first attacks on aviation cyber security to ground flights.
