[Avionics Today 03-31-2015] The U.S. Army is equipping its CH-47F Chinook helicopters with a Rockwell Collins Required Navigation Performance-Area Navigation (RNP-RNAV) upgrade. The upgrade for CH-47F Chinooks equipped with Rockwell’s Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) was initially fielded in the fall of 2014.

The RNP software also allows the Chinook user to operate in compliance with civil flight rules while flying in the continental U.S., Europe and other areas of the world where traffic congestion is being addressed by newer Communication, Navigation, Surveillance (CNS) and Air Traffic Management (ATM) rules.
