[Avionics Today 08-22-2014] Travel doesn’t start at the airport and United Airlines is looking to address that by helping customers get from point A to B and back again throughout their entire travel experience. United is looking to improve this process  by offering Uber transportation services — a mobile phone app launched in 2009 that connects drivers to riders, much like a taxi service — via United’s own mobile app.

United customers with iOS and Android mobile devices may now access Uber ground transportation information in the United app menu or in the “My Reservations” card with a current reservation. The app will display Uber information, including types of available vehicles, estimated wait times and prices. After customers select a ride, the United app will automatically transfer them to the Uber app or the Uber website to sign up for an account to complete the transaction.
