[Avionics Today July 18, 2014] BAE Systems unveiled its next generation Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) system, the Striker II, at the Farnborough International Airshow. The British aerospace manufacturer’s new HMD features night vision and target tracking technology integrated into a visor-projected system.

According to BAE, the Striker II’s tracking system uses electron bombarded active pixel sensor technology to ensure that the pilot’s head position and the aircraft computer system is “continuously in sync.” Hybrid opto-intertial technology has also been integrated into the HMD to improve the refresh rate of the navigational symbology that pilots see on the display.

“As the industry transitions from analogue to digital display solutions, Striker II brings a superior, fully digital capability to multiple platform types,” said Joseph Senftle, vice president and general manager for communications and controls solutions at BAE Systems.
