[Avionics Today June 4, 2014] EASA has issued a Supplementary Type Certificate (STC) for installation of the navAero Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) system on the Airbus A320 family of aircraft. Under the STC, dual aircraft mounting structures are approved for securing the Apple iPad or Samsung ATIV Tab 7 tablets. Aero Vodochody executed the STC in cooperation with navAero.

According to navAero, the STC also covers its Universal Aircraft Interface Device (UAID) for providing connectivity to the aircraft’s ARINC 429 and 717 data sharing. The tablets are also approved for bi-directional connectivity to select avionics systems.

"Vueling, Iberia, Croatia and other navAero customers are pleased to have this certification completed so that they can advance their fleet deployments to meet their operational goals. Again, we are first in the industry to provide such a high-level certified system with an EASA STC," said Simone Giordano, group president of navAero.
