[Avionics Today May 27, 2014] The Brazilian Army’s Equilo/Fennec helicopter fleet is receiving an avionics upgrade scheduled for completion in 2018.

Thales will provide the upgrade, its Integrated Electronic Stand-by Instrument (IESI), which performs three back-up functions: artificial horizon, altimeter and airspeed indicator. The IESI is also able to receive and control other functions, such as the helicopter’s Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS) backup.

Under a new contract, Thales will provide the IESI for a total of 36 helicopters, which will be integrated by Helibras, the Brazilian subsidiary of Airbus Helicopters.
