[Avionics Today May 16, 2014] The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has issued a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) to L2 Consulting Services for the installation of the Iridium Satellite Communications (Satcom) system on Boeing 737 Next Generation series aircraft.

The FAA’s original STC for the ICG NxtLink ICS-220A and Rockwell Collins IRT-2120 Iridium Satcom systems was certified by L2, the company said. Both systems provide the flight crew with a dedicated data link channel to support "Aircraft Communications and Reporting System (ACARS), FANs messaging, Controller – Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) and an exclusive global voice channel," L2 said.

L2 holds existing Iridium certification for the Boeing 747, 757 and 767 in Europe as well.
