Rockwell Collins and BAE Systems have extended their Data Link Solutions (DLS) joint venture, the provider of the Link-16 military networked communications solution.

The two companies first established DLS in 1996, which now supports networked communications in 33 countries operating on Link-16. DLS has a portfolio of more than $2 billion in product orders.

Link-16 provides transmission and exchange of real time tactical data for United States, Allied Nations, and Coalition Forces. The U.S. Air Force has credited the increased situational awareness of the system as a significant advantage for its missions in Afghanistan over the last decade.

“The extension of this relationship empowers DLS to sustain the installed base and collaborate on future next-generation tactical data link applications,” said Bob Haag, vice president of communication and navigation products at Rockwell Collins. More
