Annapolis, Md.-based ARINC has reached an agreement to provide IT maintenance and support for Japan’s AVICOM aircraft communications addressing and reporting system (ACARS).

AVICOM provides aviation communications for Japanese airlines, and has been using ACARS technology since the 1990s, recently adding data link infrastructure.
The contract calls for ARINC to provide on-site support at AVICOM’s Network Operating Center in Tokyo and remote support for airport locations across Japan, the company said.

“This is the first time we’ve been contracted to support an ACARS system and provide maintenance for back-end network infrastructure in this way,” noted Jim Martin, managing director of ARINC Asia Pacific.
