Harris Canada, a subsidiary of Harris Corp., on Friday opened its Calgary, Alberta avionics operation, following a $2.3 million investment to enhance the facility. The Harris facility supports the work to be completed under the company’s six-year, $273 million services contract with the Government of Canada for the CF-18 Avionics Optimized Weapon System Support (OWSS) program.

At 36,700 square feet, the facility is now 35 percent larger — providing a secure lab for testing classified equipment, a larger warehouse complete with a shipping and receiving dock, a reception area, and space to support planned growth. In addition to the refurbishment, Harris invested more than $1 million in a fully integrated software suite to provide supply chain management, production control, and configuration management solutions to deliver advanced support to the CF-18 Avionics program. Harris employs 40 people at the Calgary location.
