OnAir, a joint venture between SITA and Airbus, signed an agreement today with Pakistani airline Airblue to deploy its Mobile OnAir voice and data services on up to 12 of its Airbus A320s beginning in 2009. OnAir said the system will enable passengers to make and receive voice calls, send and receive text messages and e-mails from their mobile devices. Charges, set by mobile phone operators, will appear on passengers’ mobile phone bills at rates similar to overseas roaming charges.
