Copa Airlines, Panama City, Panama, is partnering with Naverus, Kent, Wash., to develop a Required Navigation Performance (RNP) program. Naverus completed a RNP Readiness Assessment project at Copa Airlines to help the airline begin an RNP program. The assessment addressed forecasted RNP financial benefits, compliance with RNP regulatory requirements, an evaluation of network-wide operational and safety enhancements and an overview of the operational approval process. The assessment also included a flight crew survey, the results of which provided valuable input for designing Copa’s optimal RNP program. “When fully deployed, this leading technology will allow Copa to better serve many of its existing destinations by taking advantage of improved approach and departure capability, creating up to 10 percent fuel savings and improving airline schedule efficiency, while reducing impact on the environment,” said David Hathaway, vice president of Naverus Business Development.
