Era, Reston, Va., was selected to deploy Wide Area Multilateration system in the Netherlands North Sea area, the company said. Dutch Air Navigation Service Provider, Luchtverkeersleiding Nederland (LVNL) selected Era, in partnership with the Holland Institute of Traffic Technology B.V. (HITT) company. The system will use Era’s MSS sensors, which will be placed on platforms in the North Sea and on-shore, to provide optimal surveillance coverage over the Dutch portion of the North Sea. LVNL has a requirement to gather surveillance information on traffic equipped with Mode S and ADS-B transponders traveling to and from offshore platforms, which consists primarily of helicopter traffic, as well as general aviation and military flights. Era said its MSS system, which combines multilateration and ADS-B with multi-ranging techniques, is well suited to provide accurate surveillance coverage of aircraft flying at low altitudes in adverse weather conditions.
