TEAC Aerospace, Monterey Park, Calif., said it won a contract from United Airlines to provide its hard disk digital video reproducer on the airline’s fleet of Airbus 319/320 and Boeing 757, 767 and 777 aircraft and will replace existing tape video systems on the airlines’ 269 aircraft. Exact financial terms were not disclosed, but TEAC said the “multi-million dollar contract” will begin installation in late 2007. The system, the VE-801HDi video reproducer unit (VRU), can replay up to 60 hours of MPEG video, utilizing its 120 GB hard disk drive memory. The VE-801HDi can replay scripted video sequences automatically ensuring playback continuity for each flight. The unit accepts MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 video regardless of bit rate.
