AENA (Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea), Spain’s air navigation service provider, selected Alexandria, Va.-based Era to provide a multilateration and automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) surface surveillance system for Santiago de Compostela Airport. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed. AENA said increased passenger traffic prompted it to invest in multilateration and ADS-B surveillance systems to improve capacity and safety levels in various weather and operational conditions. AENA’s selection of Era to provide surface surveillance marks Era’s fifth such deployment in Spain.  Similar systems have been installed in Asturias and Palma De Mallorca and are currently being installed in Tenerife and Madrid Barajas. The selection in Santiago extends Era’s performance worldwide with contracts and awards in Beijing, Munich, Dublin, Riga and Singapore.
