[Avionics Today April 7, 2014] Lufthansa has received its first Airbus A380 line-fitted with Panasonic Avionics’ global broadband in-flight connectivity service.

Airbus first approved Panasonic to begin line-fitting A380s with broadband in 2012, and the in-flight connectivity provider was able to meet its target of equipping the first A380 by 2014.

"For the A380, Panasonic’s in-flight Wi-Fi provides two-way broadband communications to an aircraft and lets passenger surf the Internet, email, access social networks. It also enables other crew and passenger applications," Panasonic said.

Over the next year, Panasonic will add its service to an additional 11 line-fit A380s.
