[Avionics Today March 21, 2014] Lockheed Martin is teaming up with Poland’s Warsaw Polytechnic University for an advanced applied research program looking at methods for integrating manned and unmanned airborne platforms.

The research program will focus on advanced development and optimization of multiple systems within aircraft and ground station networks, Lockheed said. Warsaw Polytechnic is also looking to use the program to develop software for use in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) applications.

Professor Janusz Narkiewicz, leader and scientific manager of the Warsaw Polytechnic project, called the project an excellent collaboration between a business and a higher education institution.

"The project of enhancing technical capabilities in the field of modeling a force structure and optimization of a network of systems, implemented by a team of students from Warsaw Polytechnic, is an excellent example of a research collaboration and technology transfer,” he said.
