[Avionics Today 01-12-2014] Estonia officially became Eurocontrol’s 41st member state on Jan. 1. With the accession of Estonia, Eurocontrol covers all 28 European Union (EU) states.

Even before becoming a member state, Estonia actively participated in the network and has contributed to improve Europe’s Air Traffic Management (ATM) performance, according to Eurocontrol. Over the last six years, Estonia has implement 15 airspace design improvement packages and two more are planned.

“Over the last four years, Estonian air traffic increased by 22 percent. Estonia continues to rise to this challenge with a very strong performance and very few delays,” said Frank Brenner, director general of Eurocontrol.
