FAA has issued type certification for integration of the Garmin G1000 avionics suite into new single-engine Piper Archer aircraft, scheduled for first availability later this year.

The G1000 avionics suite, which includes the GRS777 Attitude and Heading Reference System (AHRS), will replace the G500 suite which is currently standard on Piper Archers. Piper has received initial fleet orders for the G1000-equipped Archers from the Florida Institute of Technology and CAE Oxford Aviation Academy.

Oxford is scheduled to receive 22 single-engine Archers in 2013, and Florida Institute of Technology’s College of Aeronautics will receive eight Archer TX training airplanes, Piper said.

"With this milestone approval from the FAA, the G1000 Archer will be able to put flight-critical data at the finger tips of future Archer pilots," said Simon Caldecott, president and CEO of Piper.
