[Avionics Today 03-15-2016] Bombardier Business Aircraft will offer SmartSky 4G In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) network on in-service Bombardier Learjet, Challenger, and Global business aircraft over the continental U.S. It will complement Bombardier’s Wave system, which enables Internet connectivity on Global aircraft through a dedicated satellite network.

Bombardier’s service center network team will provide hardware sales and installations for SmartSky 4G, a new IFC network taking flight later this year. SmartSky’s 4G beam-forming technology claims to deliver a signal that locks onto an aircraft by using 60 MHz of spectrum on an Air-to-Ground (ATG) platform, which the company says provides unrestricted access to the Web.

Satcom Direct serves as SmartSky’s exclusive customer service and support provider.
