Malaysia Airlines on Thursday launched a six-month trial for its cabin crew to begin using iPads to enhance in-flight services for passengers on A380 flights.

The iPads are part of SITA’s digital cabin crew system, CrewTablet, which gives crew members access to passenger and operational data. Malaysia’s crew members will also have access to seating layouts, frequent flyer programs, weather reports and safety manuals via the CrewTablet.

“SITA, working with customers, developed a fully-managed system that includes device supply and management, global wireless connectivity and mobile applications tailored for our industry,” said Francesco Violante, CEO of SITA.

SITA said the tablets replace paper-based cabin crew processes, which also creates fuel savings for the airline.
