Virgin Atlantic selected avionics systems from Rockwell Collins for its fleet of 10 A330-300s. With the selection, Virgin Atlantic becomes the launch customer for Rockwell Collins new Digital Low Range Altimeter (DLRA) LRA-2100, which uses digital signal processing to gauge the aircraft’s height above terrain.

Deliveries of the fleet of 10 aircraft are scheduled to begin in spring 2011. The contract was announced during a signing ceremony hosted at the Rockwell Collins chalet during the Farnborough 2010 airshow.

Other selected systems include Rockwell Collins’ MultiScan Hazard Detection system and the GLU-925 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR).
