[Avionics Today 03-22-2016] Transport Canada has awarded Bombardier Business Aircraft’s Wireless Access Virtually Everywhere (WAVE) high-speed In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) solution a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC). The new system, which allows business aviation passengers to browse the Internet, stream online media and stage a videoconference in flight, is now available as an option for new Global 5000 and Global 6000 aircraft customers. Bombardier will also offer it as an upgrade option on Global aircraft currently in service.

WAVE achieved certification following extensive flight hours and tests aboard Bombardier’s Global aircraft, which proved that Bombardier WAVE, using Honeywell Aerospace’s JetWave hardware, would stay connected to Inmarsat’s next generation Jet ConneX satellite solution at various altitudes, angles and speeds, through several different types of weather, and over land and water.
