[Avionics Today March 26, 2014] The Meridiana Group will equip its commercial aircraft fleet with the navAero iPad Class 2 Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) system, the Italian airline group said.

With initial installations planned for mid-2014, Meridiana will deploy navAero’s iPad EFB across its fleet of Airbus A320s, Boeing 737s, 767s and MD-82s. Meridiana Maintenance S.p.A. DOA will provide the installations.

The new paperless cockpit operations will allow the Italian carrier to save fuel by eliminating paper-based flight manuals.

"The flexibility of the navAero iPad EFB solution was the key for us in being able to achieve an affordable, scalable EFB program. That, coupled with our strategic teaming to provide DOA services and Part 145 parts manufacturing for the creation of installation kits, brings synergy to both our organizations in being able to provide great things to our industry and expand EFB technology in Part 121 aircrafts," said Ivano Pippobello, CEO of Meridiana Maintenance.
