[Avionics Today 08-25-2016] A new website, The Equip ADS-B Marketplace, aimed at upping Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) equipage for General Aviation (GA) aircraft owners, is nearing launch on Sept. 6. The website is designed to help connect aircraft owners with qualified avionics shops that have FAA-approved ADS-B systems for their aircraft type.

In 2010, the FAA announced that aircraft operating in certain airspace including Classes A, B, C, around busy airports, and above 10,000 feet are required to have an ADS-B system effective Jan. 1, 2020. While the end of the 10-year period is rapidly drawing to a close, approximately 80 percent of GA aircraft owners have delayed the purchase and installation of their ADS-B transponder or transceiver until the final few years before the mandate takes effect, setting the stage for dramatic shortages of available installation slots and substantial price increases.

The Equip ADS-B Marketplace features a Request for Quote (RFQ) framework coupled with a competitive bidding platform tailored for ADS-B installations. These applications aim to streamline the quoting and bidding process for aircraft owners and enable them to schedule service at competitive prices. Aircraft owners are also able to access a large library of content related to ADS-B installations, speeding research and helping them determine the optimal ADS-B solution for their needs and budget.
