Astronautics EFB Flies on 747-8 Freighter

The Boeing Class 3 Electronic Flight Bag (EFB), with hardware provided by Astronautics Corporation of American, was flown on the freighter version of the 747-8,

The freighter version of the Boeing 747-8, which includes the Astronautics EFB as an option, completed its final certification flight test on August 3rd and received full certification on August 19th. Luxembourg-based Cargolux Airlines is expected to receive the first delivery of the 747-8 freighter equipped with the Astronautics EFB on Sept. 19, according to Boeing.

Using software developed by Boeing and its subsidiary, Jeppesen, and hardware from Astronautics, the EFB utilizes such applications as the Electronic Document Browser, Terminal Charts and Airport Moving Map.

The Boeing Class 3 EFB is installed as a standard product on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and is offered for production and retrofit programs on the Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767, 777 and the Boeing Business Jet. Astronautics said it has delivered and have orders and commitments for more than 2,500 Boeing Class 3 EFBs.
