The ubiquitous GPS network navigates cars, trucks, boats and aircraft, both military and civilian, around the world. Aircraft operators rely on the accurate and secure positioning information provided by the GPS system to guide aircraft safely to their destinations. But some say the reliance on GPS is too strong, particularly the potential ramifications to operations in the event of a signal disruption, intentional or otherwise.
LightSquared’s proposed nationwide broadband network, and its proximity in the spectrum to the GPS signals, has raised a lot of “what-if” questions regarding GPS. Some have called it a “trial run” to determine the GPS network’s weaknesses. So where does that leave the GPS network? What’s next? How are GPS equipment manufacturers responding?
Get the answers to these and many other questions from our panel of industry experts.
