A new “air limo” service is being launched by Hopscotch Air covering the Northeastern U.S. where airline service has become increasingly problematic with weather and air traffic control problems. Hopscotch’s executives are pitching it as the way to “bypass the airline mess.”
The company may launch as soon as this spring, using the Cirrus SR22 turboprop, and has applied for certification as an “air limo” service. The new service will cover the 500 miles surrounding New York concentrating on local, rather than, major metropolitan airports. The area is bounded by Portland, Me., Columbus, Oh., and Virginia Beach, Va. It has part partnered with veteran, certified air carrier Quik Flight, LLC, an established aircraft charter company and a leading provider of air ambulance services.
The new service will be priced at airline levels, allowing two people to fly on its SR22s for less than a walk-up ticket on the major carriers. “Unlike traditional charter, where you're charged by the hour, there are no complicated math problems involving time, distance, wind and barometric pressure formulas to figure out an ‘estimated’ price,” said the company’s web site. “We provide guaranteed pricing at the time you book your flight. Hopscotch charges $350 per 100 miles for the entire plane.”
Hopscotch also touts the safety of the aircraft citing its whole place parachute system, the only aircraft to offer the feature.
