Third 100 Takes Flight
The third Phenom 100 jet took its first flight over the holidays from the test runway at the
Embraer’s Gavião Peixoto facility in São Paul and joins the aircraft flight test campaign, performing interior function and reliability tests.
This jet, the first to be completed in the newly inaugurated hangar at the same site, will be outfitted with the interior designed in partnership with
BMW DesignworksUSA. The fourth aircraft is in the final assembly stage and will be used in the Phenom 100 maturity campaign.
“The Phenom 100 flight test campaign has accrued over 250 hours on more than 260 flights,” said Henrique Langenegger, vice president, programs - Executive Jets. “The aircraft dispatch reliability has been excellent, showing that all investments made in product maturity were worthwhile.”
The tests now include three Phenom 100 jets, which have recently completed performance, flying qualities, flutter, water ingestion, and artificial ice tests.
With the steady pace of the Phenom program, the fuselage of the first Phenom 300 is now ready. The first pair of
Pratt & Whitney Canada PW535E engines has arrived at Embraer for installation on the jet, once the wing-fuselage mating occurs. Final assembly of the Phenom 300 will take place in the Gavião Peixoto facility.
New Hangar for Phenom Program
Embraer inaugurated a hangar specifically for producing the Phenom 100 and Phenom 300 jets, at the Gavião Peixoto plant. As of 2009, plans are to perform the final assembly of 120 to 150 jets per year at the facility.
“I am absolutely certain that here, in this hangar, we will write a new and very successful page in the company’s history,” said Frederico Fleury Curado, president and CEO. “This is a further demonstration of our commitment to the executive aviation market.”
With a total area of 201,285 square feet (18,700 square meters), the new building handles the final assembly line and interior installation of the Phenom jets, and has a support area and supply center. There are also three rolling overhead cranes, each with a 5,512-pounds (2.5-ton) capacity, one of which has a rotating cab.
“The new hangar will meet the increasing demand for the Phenom jets, whose sales have already grown to around 700 aircraft,” stated Luís Carlos Affonso, executive vice president, Executive Jets. “While our facilities expand, the production and tests also advance at an accelerated pace.”
