The
Embraer Phenom 100 was cited by the
Financing Agency for Studies and Projects (Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos - FINEP) for its 2007 Award for Technological Innovation, in the Product category. The group said the Phenom100 very light executive jet combines bold performance features, comfort and design with low-cost operation and maintenance.
The ceremony was held in Brasília, with Embraer Executive Vice President Executive Jets Luís Carlos Affonso, accepting the award from Brazilian Vice President José Alencar.
“We are honored by FINEP’s recognition,” said Affonso. The agency plays an extremely important role in the nation’s development. This award confirms the vision for Embraer to become one of the world’s primary manufacturers of executive jets, offering innovative and high technology products to the market.”
FINEP organizes the annual award, which had over 730 participants this year. It works to support all phases of the innovation process, from laboratory research to the market development for innovative products and processes. Created in 1998, it also finances the innovations and scientific and technological research of companies, universities, technological institutes, research centers, and other public or private institutions, by mobilizing funds and integrating instruments for Brazil’s economic and social development.
“This Award is the Oscar of Innovation,” commented Carlos Ganem, FINEP’s superintendent of Institutional Relations. “With this trophy, the agency recognizes the good ideas that give structure to the knowledge community.”
Throughout FINEP’s 10 editions, 3,029 projects have been evaluated, illustrating the growing importance of the award. A public company connected to the
Ministry of Science and Technology, FINEP was created in 1967 to institutionalize the
Fund for Financing Project and Program Studies (Fundo de Financiamento de Estudos de Projetos e Programas), substituting and expanding the role played, up to that time, by the
National Economic and Social Development Bank (Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social - BNDES) and the
Technical-Scientific Development Fund (Fundo de Desenvolvimento Técnico-Científico - FUNTEC), established in 1964 for the purpose of financing the implementation of post-graduate programs in Brazilian universities.
The company also supports science, technology and innovation programs of companies, in a partnership with scientific and technological institutions, such as the development of Embraer’s Tucano aircraft that opened the way for Brazilian airplanes to become an important export item for the nation.
Phenom 100 Mock-Up on Tour
The award came just as Embraer began its Phenom Mock-up Tour in Rio de Janeiro. The company displayed a full-scale mock-up of the aircraft in the Riana Taxi Aéreo hangar, at Jacarepaguá Airport, December 14-22. It is the second annual tour for the aircraft and kicks off the company’s world tour.
Nearly 700 jets from the Phenom family have been sold in over 40 countries. The tour showcases the spacious interior of the Phenom 100 jet, designed by
BMW Group DesignworksUSA, as well as a full-scale cockpit.
After Jacarepaguá Airport, the mock-up will be exhibited at Angra dos Reis Airport, December 26 to 30, before moving on to the Verolme Marina, in the same city, from January 2 to 6. The final stop for the Brazil Phenom Mock-up Tour is Belo Horizonte, January 10 to 16, 2008, at Pampulha Airport in the ABC Táxi Aéreo hangar.
