ViaSat Demos In-Flight Network Switching
[Avionics Today June 15, 2014] ViaSat showcased the ability to achieve in-flight network switching between a U.S. Department of Defense Ka-band Wideband Global satellite and a commercial Ka-band satellite during a U.S. Air Force proof of concept flight demonstration. Conducted under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, the demonstration sought to test a military aircraft's ability to transition between government and commercial satellite systems.
“By providing seamless roaming on the best available broadband network for enroute military airborne missions, we can help the government operate and assure the resilient enterprise network it wants," said Ken Peterman, VP of government systems at ViaSat.
