US Air Force Selects Lockheed Martin for F-22 Modernization

The U.S. Air Force awarded a contract worth up to $6.9 billion to Lockheed Martin to modernize its fleet of F-22s.

The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract was announced Wednesday as the result of a sole source acquisition.

In May 2012 the Air Force decided to stop flying F-22s in areas that are difficult to land after several incidents where pilots reported blackouts and dizziness, due to a problem with the air supply system.

The Air Force did not specify what the modernization would involve. The work is expected to be completed by 2023. More
