The U.K.'s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced leadership changes within its recently merged safety and airspace functions on Thursday, Jan. 9.
According to a statement, Rob Bishton will take over as head of the CAA’s Flight Operations department, while Tony Rapson, a former Royal Air Force Group captain, air traffic controller and aviation policy expert, will head up the brand new general aviation unit.
The general aviation unit was created following the U.K.'s red tape challenge consultation, a study into the CAA's regulation of the country's GA industry. The GA unit will begin operation in April.
Bishton is the operations director at Fastjet and also a current A320 and B737 captain and instructor. He will replace the retiring Bob Jones in March.
