U.S. Air Force Approves Lockheed Martin ATP-SE Program
Lockheed Martin received approval from the U.S. Air Force for full-rate production of its sniper advanced targeting pod (ATP), to enhance the detection ranges of aircrews operating air-to-surface fighter and bomber aircraft.
The full-rate production was approved as part of the Air Force’s ATP-Sensor Enhancement (ATP-SE) program, according to Lockheed. The pods provide a video data link of high-resolution streaming video of targets to ground receivers for non-traditional intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (NTISR), the company said.
“With Sniper ATP-SE, aircrews and ground forces can identify targets faster and farther away, boosting their situational awareness and ensuring their safety in high threat environments,” said Bill Spangenberg, Sniper ATP program manager at Lockheed Martin.
Spangenberg said initial deployment of the Sniper ATP-SE pods will occur later this year. More
