Turkish Navy Inks Deal for ATR 72-600s

The Turkish Undersecretariat for Defense Industries has a new agreement with Alenia Aermacchi to acquire 8 military variants of ATR's 72-600 turboprop aircraft.

The agreement will add two ATR 72-600 Turkish Maritime Utility Aircraft (TMUA) and eight ATR 72-600 Turkish Maritime Patrol Aircraft (TMPA) to the Turkish Navy's fleet. The new agreement is an amendment to a previous contract between Alenia and the Turkish government for the now out of production ATR 72-500.

Alenia will collaborate with Turkish Aerospace Industry (TAI) and Thales to complete the modifications for the new 72-600s. Thales will serve as lead systems integrator for the new avionics suite and AMASCOS mission system.

The Turkish Navy is scheduled to take delivery of its first TMPA in 2017, with the remaining aircraft to be delivered by 2018.
