Transocean Signs $1.1B Boeing 737 Purchase

[Aviation Today March 27, 2014] Japan Transocean Air (JTA) has announced a $1.1 billion purchase for 12 Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft, the Japan Airlines Group subsidiary said.

The Japanese carrier is looking to use the purchase to mark the start of its fleet renewal program, with the new aircraft scheduled to begin entering service in 2016. Under the agreement, JTA will have the flexibility to switch the order to Boeing's future 737 family, the 737 MAX.

The Okinawa-based airline currently operates a fleet of 737-400s.  JTA will equip its 737-800s with CFM International's CFM56-7 engines.
